Branding

Branding itself is an art form which varies according to the purpose of any particular website. Colors, shapes and combinations there of; donate certain moods to users. Some sites such as fashion sites would tend to follow the latest trends whereas financial institutions would generally tend to be more conservative following a cleaner more classical approach to their look and feel. There are exceptions however to all rules. COmpanies such Outsurance, Kalula and Virgin have targeted quite successfully the more adventurous market by offering an alternative to the norm. Most websites are built according to the client's logo, established branding and inspiration from top web designs in the same field.

Research

Research is focuses on the nature of the client's needs, trends in the market, the clients target audience and optimal solutions to cater for the clients needs.

Team Work

Besides working in a team with my collegues, it is imperitive that each project with a client is seen as a key member of the team. Our specialised field is web design and development but the client is the expert on the nature of his or her business. Some clients play a major role in the development of their site and I have learnt alot in this process. Sometimes however it is also important to take the lead and provide the client with the most effective solution for his or her site.

Excellence

My reputation as a designer/developer is attached to each site I work on, therefore it is imperitive that to offer the client with something that exceeds expectations. My method is to research the best I can find on the web and provide something that at best exceeds the standard or at worst equals it. Anything less is considered failure. It is also important to manage the client's expectations and exceed set deadlines.

Compliance

The two major aspects of compliance relates to the development and design of a site and directly affects the user's experience which in turn affects the client's reputation. Development wise the optimal standards are web 2.0 and the w3c convention. This ensures that websites will run effectively in most web browsers of which Internet Explorer and Mozilla Fire Fox take up the bulk of the market. Screen resolution and screen sizes also affect the user's experience and a site needs to be compatible in the majority of what is being used today. It is also imperitive to have a good understanding of current design trends and technology available in the industry.

Users

Every website is designed with target audience in mind. Besides being designed in such a way as to have a desired effect on an audience, it is also important that the navigation is easy so the user will have an optimal experience. The site needs to be appropriate to the product keeping in mind branding principals and simple ergonomics.

Effectiveness

It is no good having a fantastic looking site that no one sees and doesn't relate to one's target adience. A website is a client's investment and an online representation. The site needs to be engage the audience and provoke them to action. It first and foremost needs to be found- this is done through Search Engine Optimisation, E-Mail and Viral marketing as well as other innovative marketing campaigns.
